sam

Labour's Transport Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick, came to Bristol last month and Sam Townend brought him to Lawrence Weston to see the Lawrence Weston Community Transport at work.

Sam Townend, who is Labour’s Prospective Candidate for Bristol North West, said, “I wanted to show Jim what is happening in Lawrence Weston.  I told him that the community buses respond to individual needs and get local people to where they want to be - work or the station, the doctor or the shops.”   Jim Fitzpatrick met Cllr John Bees who chairs the Management Committee, Terry Hopkins, who manages the project, drivers- Terry Thomas and operations worker- Nigel Barrett, Beverley Williams the administrator and Gary Clapp who is in charge of finance and fund-raising manager.

Jim said, “I was happy to fit a visit to Lawrence Weston into my timetable.  It was good to meet the people who make the project work.  I’d heard about the way local people set up and run this project and I wanted to meet some of those involved.  It is so important that people with mobility problems can get around.”
