Upper Horfield Standing Together Against the Yobs

A petition of 174 signatures will be presented to Bristol City Council at the full Council meeting on Tuesday 11th September 2007 on behalf of the Upper Horfield Community by Sam Townend, the Labour Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Bristol North West.

Sam said, “Residents are really coming together to sort out this problem collectively.  For example, a group working together are going to repair the fence at St. Gregory’s Church and Bristol Community Housing Federation have agreed to pay for the paint. Things are starting to happen and the authorities appear to be beginning to take notice.  There are some positive signs from the police and from the City Council that they will work together to help the community eradicate this anti-social behaviour from just a few individuals. We have yet to hear whether the Council will re-open the Youth Club and get the 5 a side pitch built.  Upper Horfield really needs these youth facilities and that is the message I want to get over at the Council meeting.”

Ray Hulbert MBE, Vice Chair of the Upper Horfield Community Trust, said, “The Upper Horfield community have come together and come out in force behind Sam’s campaign.  We are hoping to hear some good news on the youth facilities soon.”
