Sam Townend calls for support for local Bristol schools at Labour’s Brighton Conference

Today at about 2.40 pm Bristol’s Sam Townend, Labour’s candidate for MP for Bristol North West is hoping to speak in the education debate and calls for all parties to support Bristol’s schools and not do them down.

Sam will call for:

Current numbers of schools are enough.

Further investment and support for our existing secondary schools.

Opposing the divisive approach of the Conservative Party locally which wants to impose even more schools even though existing schools are under-capacity which can only damage the prospects for Bristol’s children.

Sam will say:

“Support our local schools.  Make them the best they can possibly be.  Make them so that parents from all backgrounds would choose to send their children there.  Keep up the investment in inspirational teachers and head-teachers at our existing schools.  Give these schools the training and support they need to take-off. 

Don’t, as the Tories would, impose further competition in an already dangerously over-crowded market.  Their obsession with free-market dogma even in this setting can only harm so many more people than it could help. 

Our campaign should and must have at its heart: support our local schools.”
